There are New Year’s traditions belonging to Barcelona.

The most traditional dish is escudella amb carn d’olla. Escudella is a sauce made of pasta, rice, or both.

When the new year comes, it is a tradition to eat 12 grapes at the same time. While this is very difficult, they say if you manage to eat, you will be blessed with good luck the following year.

You say cheers with a ring in your glass of cava to attract money and prosperity in the new year.

Places to Go for New Year’s Eve in Barcelona

There are places that we must visit for New Year’s eve in Barcelona.

Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina flows into Montjuic’s Magic Fountain. It is the perfect place to spend time with light, water, fire and music shows. The visual effect of lights and fireworks will fascinate you.

Las Ramblas has many bars, pubs and clubs where you can dance the night away. Great place to wander main street of the old city. The markets here are great. Great place for a spot of shopping and buying souvenirs, plently of places to dine out, boat riding available. Very lively and cool. Definitly worth a go.

You can watch the light show at Plaça Espanya in front of the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc complete with music and an awesome fireworks display. You can join many locals at the event here. It is a tourist attraction and well worth a visit if you’re there.

Plaça Catalunya is a great place to kick off the festivities as it’s very central and easily accessible by public transport. This is a cheaper option to ring a bell on the New Year, as everyone shows up with 12 bottles of grapes and cava and makes those who participate laugh.
